DEF shortage in Southern California
About two months ago (around last May), Facebook posts started to circulate regarding the shortage of DEF fluid due to various sinister reasons. Diesel exhaust fluid is one of the chemical solutions that is injected into diesel exhaust to neutralize NOx.

DEF fluid is made of urea and deionized water, so related factors such as raising natural gas prices made diesel exhaust fluid occasionally much more expensive and increasingly rare.

Why Azure?

Ten years of experience supplying and processing DEF fluid and some other products such as high-quality coolants turn Azure chemical into one of the best DEF leaders and wholesalers in Southern California. This company delivers DEF Fluid products to help all customers and distributors fulfill their handling and storage ambitions.

Bulk DEF solutions, mini-bulk storage, or a DEF tank for diesel-powered vehicles are some delivery options that Azure chemical provides. Supplying high-quality AdBlue helps diesel engine owners meet the nitrous oxides reduction and let them be ready to promote green manufacturing methods.

The DEF Shortage Is Crippling

It seems that the core of this predicted shortage is due to unimagined supply and production problems that happened briefly in Australia and Korea but fortunately did not become a persistent problem.

We are California’s first DEF manufacturer and one of the largest companies producing this solution in the United States. Our company manufactures most of what we need at home and exports the other area’s needs.

What’s causing the possible diesel exhaust fluid shortage?

There is some consternation about natural gas prices, which is the highest cost in manufacturing nitrogen products such as DEF. The DEF prices tend to go up in some areas; it can be driven by some factors, including the decline in urea exports.

Russia is the First exporter of urea which is the main ingredient in DEF all around the world. So, because of the Russia-Ukraine war, some worldwide sanctions have been imposed against Russia, and its transportation channels have been disrupted.

However, natural gas prices remain high; the United States still has strong domestic urea production, and it is the third-largest chemical importer.

Conclusion

Despite Australia and Korea facing DEF shortages late last year, diesel exhaust fluid manufacturers in the United States and even southern California maintain that they haven’t any deficiency in the domestic supply. It seems that the DEF fluid shortage leaves the industry crippled, but fortunately, there are currently no sequential supply chain problems of DEF we could find evidence of.
